From the front of the cabin
After we dropped Paul off at the MTC on Wednesday we drove up to Cache Valley and went straight to our cabin that is being built six miles up Logan Canyon. As we drove up we were both moved by the beauty of Logan Canyon -- especially this time of year. The colors were gorgeous and the steep mountains with rough cliffs make for a beautiful drive. Driving into the cabin site was especially beautiful. Logan River is on one side, the sheer moutains and cliffs on the other and trees on both sides of the road form a canopy. Much work has been done on the cabin and Lee has been able to convince the Forest Service to agree to some substantial changes that will make for a much nicer cabin. We were thrilled with the progress and the expertise and passion that Lee brings to this project.
I believe this place will be a great blessing in our lives. I have been thinking about giving it a name the way the English name their homes -- it also seemed to be common in much of America during the 19th century. I believe that as majority owner of the cabin I will probably get "naming rights" (a common term in philanthropy when someone pays a lot of money to put their name on a building or a program) but I should check with Paul and Lee. Of course they can call it whatever they want. Anyway, this evening at the Priesthood session of conference (perhaps I should have been concentrating on the talks), I came up with a name that I want to get some feedback on.
When we climbed Mount Olympus in Greece last year we stayed in the best mountain huts I have ever been in. They were placed in spectacular settings, had great food and provided a marvelous place for us to talk, play games, enjoy each other and take in the beauties of nature. I loved the simple names they had for these two memorable huts -- Refuge A and Refuge C.
Here is a definition I found for refuge: "That which shelters or protects from danger, or from distress or calamity; a stronghold which protects by its strength, or a sanctuary which secures safety by its sacredness; a place inaccessible to an enemy." This describes well what I think this cabin can be for us. We could add a name and call it Refuge ____ or we could just call it Refuge. Let me know what you think.

Dad,
I think it's quite fitting and i like it simply as Refuge. It's how I'll be using it next year I'm sure.
Rosie doesn't seem to like the name Refuge as much as I do but I want to get other opinions.

Wow this looks amazing. I can't wait to be there with you all. I do like the idea of Refuge and think that another word added would make it a nice name - I am going to brain storm and submit some ideas in a bit. But the pictures are gorgeous. Fall is the best season.
dad - these pictures make me excited that this will be a place where we can all convene and laugh and tell stories.
my vote - in honor of paul - is whole wheat refuge.
love you guys.
How about Refuge J (for Johnson). Simple but nice sounding. The cabin is looking great. I hope someday we can come and visit you all there.
I was just going to suggest Refuge J as Jill did, but she beat me to it. I doubt my dad will care if you want to name it, Brad.
The thing I like about the name Refuge J is it makes me think we could use this as a family compound during WWIII.
It looks beautiful. I can't wait to see it in person and also to see it done. Thanks so much, Brad.
i think we should name it refuge kitty... i just like the word too much! and its pretty cute! :D i think we need to name it off of something from disney, cause they are the best! so i like it though! it looks amazing!

I vote that we might consider
JOHNSON'S HOMESTEAD (that is 2 johnson families and one homestead)
The other name I like is
"Gathering Place"
My vote is for "Refuge", although whole wheat refuge does have a ring to it...either way it looks gorgeous and couldn't be in a prettier spot.
I like Refuge as well, it seems to fit. ~Kirsty
I like refuge!
Refuge J is difficult to say.
How about The Hideaway?
The Getaway?
Riverside Inn?
The Escape?
Better idea. . . how about "The Caribbean"? Imagine saying, "I'm going back to The Caribbean for the weekend. I always make sure to go there several times a year."
