First we ate breakfast. John held Joyce. Notice her crossed feet. This is her go to thing to do with her feet. Bored in the carseat? Why not try crossing your legs - one over the other, again and again. Thinking about what to eat for breakfast? Crossing your legs helps.
After that, John went off to work in his scary warehouse (the school district moved him there while they are refinishing the old location near the high school). Joyce and I hung out - I made some meals to bring over to a family who just had a baby. Before we left to drop them off, we ate some lunch together (lentil soup and a cooked red cabbage/apple dish - Joyce really loved this one - for reals). Joyce sat next to me in a big chair.
After running some errands, we picked up John so that we could take advantage of the beautiful, warm spring day by hiking in McCormick's Creek State Park. We used the amazing high tech backpack we received as a gift from Dad before his retirement. As you can see she has the potential to use this for years to come. Her head barely reaches over it.
But that doesn't stop her from enjoying it.
We took a hike through the woods, down into some wetlands and alongside the White River. John thought this would be a great place to go canoeing and wondered if there would be places to camp along the river.
The trail took us back up a ridge and then down again until we got to the Creek. Joyce found something she couldn't take her eyes off.
This:
She had to touch it and wanted to splash and play in the pretty frigid water. We'll have to come back in the summer so we can just let her have her way with the water.
I carried her the rest of the way back up a staircase that took us out of the gorge.

Those are sure cute photos, Joyce is getting so big! What a nice way to enjoy nature.
I love sparkly things too Joyce! I was sitting on the edge of the river Seine this afternoon with exactly that face. But I couldn't touch it, it was too far.
Bravo on these photos guys. I love to see how Joyce is getting bigger and more beautiful all the time. Crazy.
I want to experience a day like this! Especially the part where I'm packed around in a backpack, enjoying nature! Love you guys and Joyce is amazing!
Joyce you look so cute, you are getting so big, and you are adorable. I can;t wait to see you all soon, we will have so much fun. Just to let everyone know that I can ride Tuffy, it feels so great to be back in the saddle, it is so much fun. It has been 7 months since her injury, almost 8. Thanks for posting, see you soon

Ditto, Jill, but I really just want to cross and uncross my legs repeatedly. I can't believe how big she is. You guys are looking really good, Julie and John.
Joyce is really cute. That looks like a lot of fun. We need to get our hands on a backpack like that!
