Nauvoo Trip -- April 10-13, 2008

We spent a wonderful four days in Nauvoo this past week. My brother Rob, his wife Mary and their four youngest children along with my brother Scott, his wife, Melanie, and their five youngest children joined us and Friday Julie, John and Joyce met us in there. It was great to spend some time with these relatives in a truly beautiful and sacred place.

I/we were deeply touched as we walked where all those marvelous Saints lived and toiled from 1839-1846. Here are a few pictures:

On our way to Nauvoo we stopped in Hannibal, MO, where Mark Twain was raised and the setting for most of his Mark Twain and Huck Finn books. Andrew and I have been reading all of those great works and he was excited to go to this literary Mecca. Here we are in front of the statue of Tom and Huck.

The highlight of Nauvoo is the spectacular temple that was constructed to match the one the Saints sacrificed so much to complete in 1846. They had to be abandon after being forced from their homes that same year. Here are a few shots of the superb reconstruction that was completed in 2002. Rosie and I did a session with Rob, Mary, Scott and Melanie on Thursday night and the interior of this temple was the most beautiful of the twenty temples I have been through. Friday night Scott, Rob and I took Rebekah, Mary Kate, David, Trevor, Stephanie and Jeremy and did some baptisms and confirmations for the dead. Saturday night Julie and John did a session.

Here are a couple of pictures of Andrew and Rebekah with the star of the weekend -- Joyce.

Here we are in front of the beautiful statue at the end of the Trail of Hope of two of our heroes -- Joseph Smith and Brigham Young.

Scott, Rob and Brad in front of Carthage jail where Joseph and Hyrum Smith were martyred. A statue of those two is behind us.

Dad

Thanks for posting that - it was such a great trip to see you all. John and I need to post a clip of "Rendezvous Nauvoo" that John took. It really was such a nice thing to meet you there. I'm really glad that Bekah and Andrew got to meet Joyce - she misses them.

Dad - I should also say how amazing your camera is - I can't believe the clarity of the pictures. It's great to know that you store and back all those pictures up.
