Indiana University shut down for the first time in 30 years and we took the opportunity to go snowshoeing. This is the first time we've been able to use our snowshoes since we moved here and we were pretty excited.
We drove out to Griffy Lake and hiked around some wetlands and along the river bottoms for a good bit until we decided to hike up some of the ridges that undulate all over this landscape. Hiking up was pretty fun - we even had to do a little switchback action which doesn't really characterize hiking in these parts. But going down the ridges was even greater fun. We had a really great time and Joyce alternately looked peacefully around, ate some cheddar bunnies and raisins and then slept (on the best part - up and down the ridges). You can see her little legs hanging out of her sort of hideous purple snowsuit a friend handed down to us.
Can you see my glee?
By the time we returned from South Carolina (for John's grandmother's funeral) the snow was just about gone. Which meant we could take Joyce out for a run. She's the best, look at her:

I know I'm stupid, but I didn't know that snow was unusual in Indianna. I'm glad you guys took advantage of it while it was there. Joyce is such a little tropper to go everywhere with you and be a nice girl. And she's an artist!
Jill - I didn't know you were stupid?! It snows, but not enough to do anything in it. Just an inch here or there. This time really made up for it. So we did, too...and got our car stuck! We just left it and unstuck it when we were done having fun.
Sounds like fun, Joyce is so cute, thanks, love you all and see you soon

this is delightful. meow.
She is so adorable! I can't believe she is already one! And you guys were pretty brave to head out in the cold with her. But I guess kids love the outdoors, right?
I loved seeing the whole blog! What a great idea to have a family blog! I've been trying to convince most of my siblings to start their own blog, but now I see that I can start it for them!
Andrew, congratulations on first chair! I agree that you are talented and I hope we can play together at a Johnson family reunion sometime.
Joyce, do you think you will be able to overcome the potential imprints from being in a straight jacket so often the first year of your life? Actually, you seem to really enjoy it! Another budding artist!!!
